The Wellbeing Matters Podcast with TP
As a Travelling Therapeutic Practitioner working with 5-18 year olds, parents are always asking me what wellbeing services and provisions are out there for their children and for themselves. There are so many people doing amazing work to support children and their families so these episodes explore what people do and why they do it. Real people. Real stories. Lived experiences. The faces behind the amazing wellbeing services and provisions that exist. We are joining the dots and creating a network - a community of amazing people in Swindon & Wiltshire. So come and tell me your story.

Today I had the pleasure of talking to the wonderful Patti Harewood! Patti is a person centered counsellor who can work with children and adults. I keep bumping into Patti where our work has crossed over first in performing arts, then in a school provision and then in an alternative provision! I wanted to give Patti the opportunity to talk about her background and what made her go into this line of work and Patti told me her story. It makes for very compelling listening so please sit back and enjoy…..Please note some of the episodes I make, will be for both parent and child And I will state this in the introduction, but this is particular episode is for adults only due to its content. Thank you.

EBSA what I have learnt so far ….
In these episodes the host shares learnings from an EBSA (emotional-based school avoidance) training, exploring why some children avoid school—factors like lockdown, attachment, friendships, overwhelm, trauma and neurodivergence.
The episode highlights why asking “why” can create barriers, and instead focuses on practical coping strategies, building trust, and helping children find language for their feelings.
It also introduces compassion-focused ideas—the threat, drive and soothe systems—and offers guidance for parents and practitioners to support children back into a sense of safety and control.
